The Hutchison farm program enables girls of all ages to apply what they are discovering in the classroom through hands-on activities in nature, thus providing them with an in-depth educational experience. The educational urban farm also provides firsthand knowledge about our natural resources and the impact our actions have on the environment.
Classes visit the Katherine and John Dobbs Farm throughout the year. After reading The Tale of Peter Rabbit, the junior kindergarten class planted Mr. McGregor’s garden at the Hutchison Farm. Third graders began their engineering unit by building a dam for their replica of the Mississippi River on the Farm while the AP Environmental Science class experimented with organic and vertical gardening.
