Hutchison Latin Students Compete at State Convention

Carpe diem! Demonstrating their enthusiasm for Latin and Roman culture, Hutchison had several students win awards at the Tennessee Junior Classical League Convention.
Lorraine Gagliano’s upper school Latin students showcased their knowledge of Latin language and culture at the Tennessee Junior Classical League state Latin convention at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Our girls competed in academic tests against students of their same level of Latin. Our girls’ artistic submissions, such as pastels, sculpture, and pen and ink, competed against students at the entire convention, regardless of grade or level of Latin.

“Every single Hutchison student who attended the state convention contributed to our success of earning our third place trophy in our Class A small school division, and I’m so proud of each student’s enthusiasm to try a new endeavor at the TJCL Convention,” Gagliano said.

Hutchison attendees received first place in their division of the spirit contest, first place in the photo of the month publicity submissions contest, third place overall in the publicity contest, fourth place in the chapter t-shirt contest, and fourth place in their level of Certamen, a quiz bowl-style game for students studying Latin, Greek, and classical civilizations. In addition, Sofia Gagliano ’28 was elected to the state office of 2nd Vice President.
