Vocal Point Wins Gold at Music Competition in Orlando
Vocal Point soaked up the sun and earned the gold at the WorldStrides Orlando Heritage Festival.
Our upper school vocal ensemble won top honors in the chamber choir division. The Orlando Heritage Festival provides a unique opportunity for vocal groups to grow as performers through expert instruction and helpful feedback from a panel of adjudicators. Vocal Point director and Hutchison music teacher Patrick Jones said judges praised the blend and balance in our girls’ singing. Vocal Point performed “Blackbird,” “Moon River,” and “You’ve Been on My Mind.”
“I am very proud of the girls. We have worked all year on maintaining a well-balanced a cappella sound, and they delivered,” Jones said.
Through the festival, members of Vocal Point participated in several workshops. Our girls completed a clinic with David Holdhusen, director of choral activities at the University of South Dakota, and a masterclass with Dianna Campbell, director of choral activities at Seminole State College of Florida. With the music professionals, our girls worked on engagement while singing and overall musicality and interpretation of the pieces.
Vocal Point celebrated its success with a well-earned visit to Universal Studios. They even got to receive their gold award at a special awards ceremony at the theme park. Congratulations to our talented vocalists on their incredible performance and award!
