Grace Abram ’25 Signs to Play Basketball at Union University
Abram credits Hutchison with helping her grow her love of the game and preparing her to take her athletic career to the next level.
It can be difficult coming to a new school at any time, but it’s especially tough to come in your senior year. Yet Grace Abram ’25 made that challenging transition seem very easy, arriving at Hutchison in August and quickly making herself an integral part of the senior class and of the Sting basketball team. Now she’s preparing for a different transition as she officially signed to play basketball at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, this fall.
“Honestly, I feel like coming to Hutchison as a senior was the best because there are so many fun traditions,” Abram said. “And I've been surrounded by the most amazing group of girls.” As she acclimated to life at Hutchison, it quickly became clear that she would do very well, both in the classroom and on the court. “It was different for sure because of the rigorous academic demand, but the teachers really helped out with that.”
“I love all the people at Hutchison, you can truly be yourself and feel comfortable around everyone.”
On the court, Abram played a key role for a Sting squad that went undefeated in the region and suffered the narrowest of losses in the state quarterfinals. She anchored the inside and showed a lot of versatility in developing an outside shot over the course of the season. Abram was named to the All-Metro and All-Region teams as well as the Tennessee Sports Writers’ Association All-State team. Abram said that Sting head coach Thomas Jones played a big role in helping her grow: “Coach Jones taught me to know my role on not only a team but also in life… and to try to make that role the best it can be.”
She will be heading to Jackson to play at Union University. She chose Union not just because of proximity but also because of a higher calling. “The fact that it’s an hour away helped, but also, with it being a Christian school, that really made my mind up for me because I feel like I will love the atmosphere while also learning about God.”
We congratulate Grace Abram on her success and wish her all the best as she takes the next step in her basketball career and in life.
