Eve-Elyse Hall ’23 Signs to Play Volleyball for Asbury University
Eve-Elyse Hall ’23 has been known for setting up her teammates on the volleyball court throughout an excellent high school career. Now she’s setting herself up for a bright future after choosing to sign to play volleyball at Asbury University in Kentucky.
Hall celebrated with her twin sister Arabella, friends, and family at a signing ceremony in April. She considered many options and is elated to play for Asbury University.
“The athletic training facilities at Asbury were extremely nice. The coach was also very warm and welcoming. It was clear that she wanted me to be a part of the team,” Hall said.
Hall’s coach at Hutchison, Michael Ralph, is thrilled to see his talented setter play at the next level. “It’s exciting! I’m proud of Eve-Elyse for all she’s done in the sport of volleyball, which she is incredibly passionate about,” Ralph said. “She has always been such a consistent, hard worker, and it’s great to see it pay off. Asbury is gaining a great player. I’m excited for her and to see what she can bring to the table for them.”
As she prepares to play in college, Hall gives a great deal of credit to the coaching staff at Hutchison. “My coaches helped me grow into my leadership role on the team and cultivate my skills,” Hall said. “Coach Ralph believed in me from the start and always sent encouraging quotes on our team group text. He also pushed me to grow stronger so I could distribute the best sets for my teammates.”
Hall also credits assistant coach and Hutchison second grade teacher Blaise Scott for changing the way her career was going, saying, “Coach Blaise is the reason that I started setting in the first place. Before, I had always been a defensive specialist or a libero. She is the person who can always get me out of my own head, and I am so thankful for her.” Hall is also grateful to Brandon Jones and Sharda Collier, the Crain Center training staff, for pushing her to get stronger.
Hall will leave Hutchison shortly, but she will keep a number of memories close to her heart. She will never forget the girls she played with in black and gold over the years. “I could not have done this without my teammates,” Hall said. “I am going to truly miss playing with them next year. They gave me unwavering support every step of the way. All of our time together at home and during out-of-town tournaments will be forever cherished.”
Hutchison was about a lot more than volleyball to Hall, and she said the lessons she has learned at Hutchison will help her throughout her life. “My biggest takeaway as a Hutchison student is that you get out what you put in. It applies in and outside of the classroom. It matters the most when nobody is watching.
“Learning to hold myself accountable has been the most influential thing I have learned,” she added. “It does not matter what everybody else is doing. It’s up to you to always work harder. There are no off days, only recovery.”
Louise Smythe ’06, who works as a storyboard artist at Pixar Animation Studios and contributed to “Inside Out 2” credits her time at Hutchison for building her confidence and skills.
