Sophie Wilson ’26 Wins Top Awards at Indie Memphis Youth Film Fest
A film by Sophie Wilson ’26 won the Indie Memphis Youth Film Fest Audience Award and the CrewUP Jury Award.
The film, P.S. I Club You, is about three students who make an unlikely connection through a common fatal attraction and become the subject of questioning in a missing person’s case. Sophie was a writer, editor, lead actress, and co-director on P.S. I Club You. Samantha Ring ’26 also starred in the film.
Sophie made the film as part of the
Indie Memphis CrewUP Youth Filmmaking Mentorship, which gives youth across the city a chance to make a short film and compete against other young filmmakers. Each team has $500 to assist in making their film and meets with a professional filmmaker mentor at least twice a month throughout the process.
“It meant the world to me to win. I have had a passion for film my whole life and this was my first time pursuing it,” Sophie said. “To win not only the Audience Award but also the Jury Award was unreal. I’m proud of everyone who worked on this film, and I can’t wait to make many more one day, hopefully professionally!”
Hutchison filmmakers have made a strong showing at previous youth film festivals. Kennedy Adeogba ’23, Lacy Williams ’23, and Nyla Johnson ’23 participated in 2023. Zoe Zerwig Ford '23 participated alongside Lacy and Nyla in 2022. In 2019, Sara Kate Burnett '22, Callie Oehmler ’20, Mischa White ’21, Caroline Couch ’20, Eliza Kamara ’21, and Paige Patteson ’19 all competed in the Indie Memphis Youth Film Fest.
